Yellowfin Tuna - キハダマグロ

Along with the Marlin, we were able to catch a small Yellowfin tuna.  We brought the fish to a new Sushi shop near the Hacienda Dock in Cabo.  They arranged five different sushi and sashimi dishes for us.  They were all so good.

カジキの他にキハダマグロも釣れたので、新しくできたカボのハシエンダドックの近くの寿司レストランに持って行った。カリフォルニアロールとスパイシーなメキシコ風味が混じったお寿司やカルパッチョ合計５種を準備してくれた。日本ではとても味わえないお寿司。おいしかったし、やっぱり日本料理はほっとする。

Blue Marlin クロカジキ

Marlin fishing is fun, but difficult. 

Marlin has such beautiful features.  When it jumps up and down, we can enjoy the grace of the fish. On the other hand, it is very difficult to find one.  It is also difficult to catch because when a fish is hooked, it tends to go far away.  Or, even worse, it goes down deep into the sea.  That is the toughest part of the fishing.

This year, I asked to try and catch a Marlin during our fishing trip in Cabo San Lucas.  After a long ride, a Marlin was hooked. I reeled in hard.  Then the Marlin fought back and went far away.  It jumped up and down showing off its gracious body in the air.  The captain of the boat, Mario, helped me by moving the boat closer to the fish.  At one point, the fish was very close to the boat, then the Marlin went down deep toward the bottom of the sea.  When it went down deep, no one could help, but I continued trying to reel in the line.  It was so hard because the fish was so heavy and stayed down so deep.  All of this fight wore me out.  Everyone said," Reel, reel!".  Manuel, the deck-hand, helped me pull the pole up.  "Pull back hard and reel down".  Suddenly, the pole became light, and the line went slack.  The fish went away.  The fighting lasted for about  15 minutes.

カジキマグロ釣りは楽しいけど難しい。難しいから楽しい。カジキがフックに捕まって暴れている様は、カジキには申し訳ないけど、優美だ。カジキはなかなか見つからないので、一日が坊主で終わることも多々ある。もう一つ難しいのは、もうすぐ釣れると思ったら、急にズルズルーと沖に逃げて暴れだす。一番困るのは、海の底深くに逃げてしまう。追いかけていくわけにもいかない。カジキ釣りこそ釣りの醍醐味だ。

と、言うわけで、今回のカボサンルカスでの釣りはカジキ釣りをお願いした。酔い止めの薬のおかげで、長い間眠っていると、「カジキ」だ。「クロカジキだ。」と、起された。必死でラインを巻き上げたけど、相手は重たいし、強い。カジキがボートのすぐそばまで引き寄せられたと思ったら、ズルズルとラインを引っ張って沖へ逃げて行く。相手は、はるかかなたで、何とかフックを外そうとバタバタ暴れている。それが美しい。キャプテンが、ボートをカジキに向かって動かしてくれ手助けしてくれる。ところが今度は案の定、海の底に隠れてしまった。デッキハンドのマニュエルが釣り竿を引くのを手伝ってくれた。「引いて、巻いて、引いて巻いて」と頑張っているうちに、竿が軽くなった。クロカジキが逃げた。１５分間の戦いだった。あーあ。

It was close to the time for us to go back, when another fish got hooked.  This was a big blue Marlin again.   MyD fought.  As with mine, this fish went back, went down and went back.  MyD was worn out.  Manuel helped him.  Manuel is a big strong Mexican fisherman.  Still, he had to work hard.  None of us could help.  Finally, the captain, Mario, came down to help him.  It took 2 hours before Manuel finally got the Marlin to the boat.  Manuel was completely exhausted.   But he won!

 I want to fight with a Marlin one more time.

釣りを諦めて帰ろうと話している時、又、カジキが引っ掛かった。今度は、MyDが活躍する番だ。私の時と同じく、カジキは、遠くへ行ったり、海の底にもぐったりして、MyDを困憊させてしまった。代わりにマニュエルが頑張ってくれた。ところが、強いメキシコ人のマニュエルでしてもすぐに釣れない。へとへとにさせられているのは分かっても我々も疲れて助けられない。ついに、キャプテンのマリオが来て助けてくれた。それでも釣れない。２時間ほどの戦いの後に、ようやくマニュエルが釣りあげた。マニュエルの勝利だった。大変な釣りだった。

　

My Fish

I was able to catch lots of Dorado this year, more than plenty. The 1st day, it was 15. The 2nd day, it was 12. However, the local authorities introduced a law and they limited our catch of fish for each day as follows:
Dorado ... 4 per person or 6 for 2 people
Marlin/Sail fish ... one per boat. You can catch more, as long as you release them.
今年はドラードが沢山釣れました。嫌と言うほど沢山。 1日目は15尾、2日目は12尾。残念ながらと言うか、幸いに、今年から厳しい法律が施され一日に持ち帰れる魚の数を制限されました。
例えば、ドラードは一人4尾又は2人で6尾まで。マーリンやセールフィッシュはボート単位で連れるのは1尾まで。もちろん、何尾でも釣れますが、制限以上の数の魚は海に返さなければなりません。



This year was the first time ever for me to catch this type of fish!
今年は今まで釣りたくても釣れなかった魚をついに釣りました。




It was so big and heavy. It weighs approximately 100 pounds. I was trying to spread its sail, which is the top fin.

こうしてみればずいぶん大きく見えますが，約45キロ位とのこと。私は魚の帆（ひれ）を広げようとしているのですが...



It was a sailfish that I caught.
In addition, I also caught a marlin (about 140 pounds), the first time I caught a marlin for a while. It took about 25 minutes before we released it. It was an exciting year for fishing.
実は私が釣ったのはバショウカジキと言う訳のついたセールフィッシュです。
このほか、久しぶりにマーリンというカジキ魚（63キロ級）も釣りました。船まで引っ張って来るのに25分掛かりました。今年は、十分に釣を堪能できました。

Black　Marlin....シロカジキ
Grilled marinated black marlin with soybean paste is said to be good.
味噌付けのシロカジキを焼いたものは天下一品だそうだ。



Blue Marlin...クロカジキ
Not so tasty as Sashimi. 刺身としてはそれほど美味しくない。




Sail Fish...バショウカジキ
Sailfish has less fat than striped marlin but used as alternative fish of striped marlin.
マカジキほど脂がのってないが、マカジキの代用魚として使われるそうだ。




Sword fish.... メカジキ
Can be eaten as Sashimi or as steak.



Bait for billfish is saury(Sanma). かじきの餌はさんま。

FEASTS FOR PELICANS

After fishing, as our boat comes closer to the bay, pelicans and frigates are hovering above us to search for their meat. Knowing that, MyD throws a leftover live bait fish up to them. It is a big feast. A swarm of birds comes to catch the fish. At this time, frigates came to pick it up.
釣が終わり、ボートが港に近づくにつれペリカンやフリゲートが餌を待ち構えて上空で待舞っている。そんな鳥達との饗宴が始まる。MyDが、残った餌魚を上空へほおリ投げると鳥達が我先に餌を捕まえようとやってくる。今回はフリゲートがやってきた。

On this day, Sep.30, pelicans missed to catch the bait fish.

この日（9/30)はペリカンたちがやってきて餌魚をつかみそこなった瞬間。

As a result, pelicans were looking for the lost fish in the sea.
その結果、ペリカンたちは海に落ちた餌魚を求めて戦っている。

FisherWomen

Three ladies are fighting hard to catch big fish - Blue Marlin, Dorado and Yellow Fin Tuna respectively. They are so strong! Men are watching us and taking photos...

3人の女性がそれぞれ、マーリン、ドラードとキハダマグロと必死で戦っています。 皆んな、逞しい女性達です。 男性陣はそんな女性をただ見つめ、写真を撮ってるだけなんです...

However, we felt great satisfaction after having successfully caught our big catch.
しかしながら、こんなにも大きな魚を何とか吊り上げられれば満足感も一入です。

Cabo San Lucas - Fishing

This is our boat, Sol Mar IV (34 feet). This is a very confortable boat. More than anything else, it has a pole holder on each seat. That will greatly help when we need to fight hard for fishing.
このSOL MAR IV (34フィート）が我々お好みのボートです。とっても乗りやすく何より釣竿を固定するポールホールダーがシートに付いているので魚と戦うときに大変役に立ちます。


We were happy to have nice crews. These are the Captain, Mario (left), and the deck hand, Manuel (right).
何より、乗組員の人が釣りを楽しいものにしてくれます。左が船長のマリオさん、右がデッキハンドのマニュエルさんです。


As the boat launched at around 6:30 am, the sun gradually comes out.
さて、ボートが朝6:30頃出発して、目的地に移動中太陽が昇ってきます。



This year, we were able to catch lots of fish at Cabo San Lucas. When we could not catch, there was a show of dolphins. So many dolphins were swimming so close to our boat and jumping up high and down. It was a great fun.　　今年はカボサンルカスでたくさん魚が釣れた。釣れないときには、いるかの群れがボートの周りを泳ぎジャンプしたりして、自然のいるかのショーを楽しんだ。

So difficult to shoot dolphins. The black spots in the sea are dolphins.
いるかのショー（？）が繰り広げられていましたが、かろうじて写真の黒い点がいるかと判る程度です。


Where dolphins swim, tuna swims. We caught two big yellow fin tunas on this day.
いるかのいるところにはマグロがいるそうだ。実際、9/2には大きなキハダマグロが2匹も釣れた。

* Dorado: Caught 62, released 22
Gave 10 to crew, also gave some fish to bellmen and 1 shop sales clerk.
* Yellow Fin Tuna: 11.
* Bonita: 2
* Marlin strikes: 5
Able to bring only one to the boat (See above photo under the caption "FisherWomen").
The captain (Mario) said it would have weighed
between 450 and 500 pounds (207 - 227 kilos).

Mackerel

The bait for mackerel fishing was a shrimp. After casting the rod, wait for a while until the bait reaches the bottom. Once the bait reach the bottom, pull the line and release. Bigger mackerel is swimming at the bottom. Repeat themovement, jiggle several time while making sure the bait is at the bottom. While doing so, there will be a bite by mackerel. Reel in.

Flounder

Started flaunder fishing at around 20:00. Flounders were found at the bottom of shallow wather. Lights were turned on at the end of a boat.
