Pink Mt. Fuji

We had already seen many different features of Mt. Fuji. However, we thought there should be some more. We had an idea. The idea was that the color of Mt. Fuji should be pinkish when the sun is rising. We decided to get up early and take a photo of pink Mt. Fuji. Yes, the color was slightly pink at around 6:48 on Jan. 7, 2010., reflecting the color of the sun on the white snow of the mountain.

山中湖に滞在中、沢山の富士山を楽しみました。が、未だあるはずだと貪欲に考えると有りました。日の出の富士山です。太陽は見えないけど、富士山の白い雪に日の出が反射する筈だと考えると、どんな富士山になるのか見るのが楽しみになりました。又もや早起きして富士山を撮ることにしました。正解でした。1月7日朝6時48分頃。とっても綺麗な淡いピンクに富士山が染まりました。ホテルの敷地から撮った富士山です。

We also enjoyed seeing the half moon at the top of Mt. Fuji on the morning when we had to leave.

ちょっと見難いですが、こちらは、富士山の頂上辺りに半月が見えますでしょうか。帰る日の朝空の富士山と半月です。

Good Bye Mt. Fuji, we had such a nice time together.

ついに、富士山とお別れです。帰る前にもう一度、富士山と山中湖と白鳥を撮りに出かけ、別れを惜しみました。バイバイ富士山。楽しかったよ。

Mt. Fuji at Five Lakes

Other than observing Mt. Fuji from Lake Yamanaka, we also visited four other lakes, which are located on the northern side of Mt. Fuji.  In particular, we were interested in seeing Mt. Fuji as shown on the back of the 1,000 Yen note.  This view was taken at Lake Motosu.

時間がたっぷりあったので、富士五湖をすべて回ってみることにした。特に、千円札の裏に映っている富士山が撮られた場所に行きたくなりました。それが本栖湖で撮られたとのこと。そんな場所に行けるだけで嬉しくなりました。いかがでしょうか。千円札の裏写真と比べてみてください。

Swans at Lake Yamanaka

After the excitement of watching the diamond Fuji, we went to the shore of Lake Yamanaka to take photos of swans. There, there was a local man who was feeding swans.  He taught us that the two closest swans had black beaks and they came from Russia.  

今度は富士山を背景に山中湖に浮かぶ白鳥の写真を撮りに行くと、そこで餌をやっている男の人が教えてくれました。ここに居る2羽の白鳥はロシアから来た白鳥ですよ。口ばしが黒いでしょ。

Away from the two, there was a flock of swans, at least 30. According to the local person, they live on Lake Yamanaka year round, and the color of the beak was orange.

二羽の白鳥から離れたところに30羽ぐらいの白鳥の群れがありました。先ほどの男性によると、これらの白鳥は一年を通じて山中湖に居るそうです。この白鳥の嘴はオレンジ色をしています。

Diamond Fuji - Jan. 6, 2010 15:23

We did not expect to see the Diamond Fuji at the time of the year when we were there.  However, one of the cameramen advised me that we might be able to see it from a park located on the north-west side of Lake Yamanaka. On the following day, Jan 6, 2010, we drove there and waited.  We made it.  At around 15:23, I set my compact camera in auto mode and started to press the shutter for serial shots so that I would not miss the best view.   The outcome was miserable.  Many sunlays disturbed the scene.  Fortunately, MyD took a very nice shot of the Diamond Fuji.  A perfect one!

The diamond effect is created just as the sun is setting behind Mt. Fuji.  It looks like a diamond in the sky.  To view this, you have to be in the right location.  This varies during the year.  Sometimes, the diamond is reflected on the surface of the lake, which is very beautiful. 

我々が訪ねた時期にはダイアモンド富士は期待できない。山中湖の観光案内の人もそう言ってました。しかしながら、昨日のカメラマンは花の都公園から見えると言っていたので、疑心暗鬼ながら行ってみました。公園からといえどどこに立てばいいのか分からない。が、ここにも又、数名のカメラマンが居ました。良かった。そばに立って待つことにしました。その時が、近づいてきました。2010年1月6日15：23位から太陽が、徐々に富士山の頂上へと移動していった。素晴らしい。シャッターチャンスを逃すまいと、オートでバカチョンカメラを連写させました。結果は、光線が反射して、ちっともうまく撮れなかったのです。今回も、MyDの写真をお借りすることにしました。

My Dream Came True ... Mt. Fuji

I have never seen Mt.Fuji so close and for such a long time.  Even though I had seen it in the past, it was always from a long distance and only for a fraction of time.  My dream was to have the view of Mt. Fuji alway so close to me.  When I open the window, Mt. Fuji should be there.  The dream came true this year.  We travelled to Lake Yamanaka and stayed there for three nights. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed by the location of our room because there was an obstruction at the left hand side between me and Mt. Fuji. Still, beautiful Mt. Fuji was there when we opened the curtain on the window.

富士山を近くでじいっと長い間見れるという生活を今までしたことがなく、見れたとしても、向こうの方に小さく、ほんの一瞬しか見たことがなかった。富士山を見たい、ジーと長い間、どっちを向いても富士山が見える生活をしてみたいというのが私の夢でした。1月4日から8日まで保険組合からの山中湖の保養施設に泊まらせて頂き、その夢が実現しました。が、我々に割り当てられた部屋から左手に邪魔物があり、富士山全体がすっきりと見えるわけではなかったので部屋割りには失望した、というのが、正直な感想。しかしながら、毎朝、窓を開けると富士山が見えるのでやはり嬉しかった。

Bressed by the good weather, I was able to see Mt. Fuji from almost everwhere we went.  This is Mt. Fuji from the smelt fishing boat on the Lake Yamanaka in the early morning of January 5, 2010.

天気に恵まれ、富士山はどこにいてもよく見えた。こちらは1月5日の早朝山中湖でワカサギ釣りをしたボートからの眺めです。

While we were driving around Lake Yamanaka, we saw many people setting up their cameras and pointing them toward Mt. Fuji.  When I asked one of the cameramen, he told me that he was waiting to see the beautiful natural colors that are sometimes created as the sun sets behind Mt. Fuji.  Although they could not expect a perfect sunset on the top of Mt. Fuji every day, they often can still enjoy the colors.  We decided to wait for the sunset as well and MyD took a nice shot of the sunset.

山中湖の周りをドライブしているとなにやらカメラを構えた人が集まっているところにきてしまいました。山中湖の北西の湖畔、長池湖畔というのでしょうか。3時20分頃、富士山の真上から陽が沈むわけではないけれど、太陽と富士と雲との綺麗な自然現象を撮りに集まるカメラマン達で一杯でした。MyDも綺麗な写真を撮ってくれました。

As we waited, the clouds gave us the impression  that there was a fire on the mountain.

雲が移動してくるにつれ、山火事が発生しているかのように見えました。

SMELT FISHING ワカサギ釣り

On January 4th, MyD and my niece and I travelled to Lake Yamanaka.  On the following morning, we were challenged to get up very early and to go smelt fishing on the lake by 5:30 am.  Fishing was conducted on an enclosed fishing boat.

正月休みにMyDと姪と一緒に、山中湖に行きました。1月5日朝5時30分までに集合場所に着いてワカサギ釣りをするという大変なチャレンジをしまた。無事間に合い、写真のようなドーム船に乗っての釣です。

The fishing pole for smelt fishing was like a toy, very small and short.  There were six tiny hooks on the line.  The bait was tiny red worms.  Ladies did not like to touch these worms.  So MyD had to work for my niece, for me and for himself.  The champion of the day among us was my niece.  One time, she caught six fish - one on each hook. 

小さな釣竿に小さな釣り針、まるでおもちゃの釣竿のようでした。餌は小さな虫。もちろん餌をつけるのはMyD. 我々女性陣は虫を触りたくない。この日の釣のチャンピオンは私の姪っ子。1本のラインに小さな針が6本ついていてそのすべてにワカサギが掛かりました。

On the other hand, MyD spent 5,000 yen a person for mostly untangling our fishing lines and putting worms on our hooks. 

片やMyDは我々の釣り針の餌付けと釣り糸のもつれを直している間に、殆ど釣もせず終わってしまいました。2時間でお一人様5,000円也。

We were able to find a restaurant who cooks the fish for 100 yen.  The smelt fish was cooked tempura style.  We enjoyed eating it together with the local specialty, "Hoto" noodle.

釣ったワカサギは、レストランで料理をしてもらいました。100円程払って釣りたてのワカサギをてんぷらにしてもらい、ほうとうと一緒に頂きました。

We enjoyed smelt fishing, but my niece would have been much happier if we had been able to get on the boat like this photo.

ワカサギ釣りはそれなりに楽しかったですが、写真のようなボートに乗って釣ができていればもっと楽しかったでしょうね。特に、姪っ子が乗れなくて残念そうでした。
